Week 1 Progress Report

This is the 1st week we start the project 3, and this project is a 3 person group assignment, so I decided to group with john Tan, Csee teoh to on work together in this project. Our project 3 title is about sign in the city. Firstly, we have to discuss together and find out a topic that most representative sign in the city, after discussion with my group member, we decided  to choose graffiti as our project topic. Since we already get the direction on this project, we are started to research on information about graffiti  and analyses the info that can make us to more understanding about our project topic.

So What is Grafiti?
The difference between art and graffiti is that art is done on property with the permission of the property owner. Art is a creative and productive form of expression.

Graffiti is writing, drawing, or symbols applied to any surface without the permission of the property owner. To create graffiti, vandals use a variety of materials, such as automotive car paint, spray paint, crayons and permanent ink. Etching surfaces is another way vandals destroy property.

Graffiti can occur anywhere, however, some of the more popular targets include:
  • public and private buildings
  • recreational facilities
  • Canada Post mailboxes
  • playground equipment
  • bridges and overpasses
  • public transit property and vehicle
Graffiti art in Malaysia has slowly and quietly gaining momentum across cities, gaining popularity for more than 10 years now. Bob from the Super Sunday Crew believes there are as many as 300 graffiti artists and writers, compared to 50 two years ago. With more events and exchange of talents taking place locally and internationally like the Meeting of Styles, the controversial art movement is now ready to be in the spotlight.
